Nha Trang Cathedral

Nha Trang Cathedral is a catholic church visited by many domestic and foreign tourists. The church is a famous historical and cultural destination in Nha Trang, built during the French colonial period with ancient French-style architecture.

With a history of more than 80 years, Nha Trang Cathedral, located in the heart of Nha Trang city, is a famous tourist destination and pride for Catholics in the beautiful coastal city.

History

• Nha Trang, in the 1885s, was sparsely populated with a few fishing villages scattered along the coast. The parishioners at this time were only a small number of people living and doing religious activities in Cho Moi Parish.
• In 1886, the French colonial government came to Nha Trang to build the government and, at the same time, created two significant works at that time, including the Pasteur Institute and the Institute of Oceanography. At that time, to meet the needs of religious activities for Nha Trang parishioners and the French living locally, a small chapel was built temporarily on the beach of Nha Trang.
• Realizing that the people’s need for religious activities increased, priest Louis Vallet (1869-1945) established a new parish in Nha Trang and proceeded to build a new church, now the Nha Trang Cathedral.
• According to the explanation about Nha Trang Mountain Church by local tour guides, the church was built in 1928 and completed in 1933.
